Ahmet Mercan joined Altınordu in 1974 from Yeşilova team. Due to his dark skin color, he was nicknamed "Arap Ahmet" (Ahmet the Arab). His famous headed goals spread from mouth to mouth. Being a typical target man, the late Ahmet Mercan became renowned for his magnificent goal scored from 30 meters against Elazığspor. With his finishing touches inside the penalty area, he always remained a dangerous weapon and became one of Altınordu's unforgettable goal scorers.
